Dear Concerned Citizens, We are deeply saddened about the tragic accident that occurred this past weekend and as well as the other tragic accidents that have occurred in the past on Highway 71. Our hearts and prayers go out to the families. Our group (CC71) continues to meet with our elected officials about concerns in making this highway safer. Today Travis County Commissioner Gerald Daugherty, has informed us that he working diligently with TxDot to immediately begin the repaving of the western side of Bee Creek Valley with a porous friction course material to help prevent hydroplaning. We would like to ask you to continue to write to the elected officials posted on our website www.cc71.org to let them know the seriousness of how dangerous this road is for all people to drive. They need to hear from you.... the people they represent! We would like to bring to your attention about a Open House Meeting regarding improvements to Hwy. 71 hosted by TxDot on Tuesday, February 26, 2008. The meeting will be 5pm - 8pm at the Travis County Rural Community Center located at 8656 Hwy.71 Bldg. A. Details about the meeting are attached. We have received a tremendous outpouring of interest from concerned citizens that would like to volunteer a little bit of their time to help make Hwy. 71 a safer road. A meeting will be held for all volunteers. Meeting place and time still to be determined. Thank you for your concern and efforts in creating a safer Highway 71! Please Drive Safely!
