CC71 met with TxDOT on May 14, 2008 CC71 members met with Austin District Engineer Bob Daigh. Mr. Daigh and the TxDOT engineers are reviewing comments made regarding the improvements presented at the April 24th Open House. Regarding the barrier proposal, some of the considerations included driveway and subdivision access concerns, barrier length, turn-around options, etc. TxDOT has indicated that these comments will be used in evaluating the alternative solutions and arriving at a recommended design. Mr. Daigh hopes to have additional information available regarding the course of action within the next few weeks. He did state the barriers were proposed as an interim safety plan until funding is available for the long term plan, which will be to redesign the road into a 5-lane highway. CC71 supports proposed safety measures to the extent that TxDOT says they are the best safety solution for Highway 71. CC71 also asked TxDOT to please evaluate safety concerns regarding the intersection of Highway 71 and SW Parkway. Thank you again for your concerns and sending in your comments regarding safety on Highway 71. Please continue to visit our website for the latest news and updates regarding safety on Highway 71. Please drive safely! Sincerely, CC71
