Thank You To Our Community
Tuesday April 15th 2008

Dear Concerned Citizens,

On April 2, 2008 several CC71 members attended a press conference where Senator Watson announced specific safety improvements for State Highway 71. (Please see plans on our website http://www.cc71.org.)

The atmosphere at the press conference demonstrated community in its purest sense. In attendance were our State Senator Kirk Watson, our Precinct Three County Commissioner Gerald Daugherty, our State Representative Valinda Bolton, our local Sheriff's Department, and District Area Engineer Bob Daigh, along with other TxDOT engineers.

There were several local news reporters that have been covering the tragic accidents that have occurred over the last two years on this highway. And, of course, a small contingency from Citizens for Change on 71 who took with them the spirit of all of us who are devoted to safety on Highway 71 in western Travis County. Our mission was represented well in the hearts and minds of those present at the conference.

We would like to take a moment to give thanks to all of those who have helped facilitate these changes. CC71 extends our deepest gratitude to Senator Kirk Watson. He stepped up and took a serious stance on this issue by working with various state and local leaders to devise permanent solutions to address the safety problems of Highway 71.

CC71 would particularly like to acknowledge Commissioner Gerald Daugherty for his prompt response to our group. He has listened to our safety concerns regarding Highway 71 since the founding of our group. He has met with our community and has been extremely instrumental in bringing various groups together to problem solve this crisis in his district.

We are sincerely appreciative of State Representative Valinda Bolton and her staff for always being available to listen and offer guidance to our group.

Additionally, CC71 thanks TxDOT for meeting with our group and listening to our concerns.

We are very grateful to our law enforcement agencies and the support they have offered to our cause. They have increased their presence on Highway 71 and have worked diligently to provide safety for us all.

Special acknowledgment is given to Linda Aldrich, Alderman for the Village of Briarcliff, for setting into motion the means for this serious problem to be addressed by our community.

I would especially like to thank all of the members of CC71 for sacrificing their time and energy in advocating for safety improvements for Highway 71.

Most of all we want to thank all of you for expressing your concern either by signing our petition, writing to our elected officials, calling to offer your help and support, or just sending us your comments regarding this issue. We are indeed a community that cares about each other. By voicing our opinions together we CAN make a change!

I would like to assure you that Citizens for Change on 71 will continue to monitor the progress of safety improvements on Highway 71 in western Travis County.

Please drive safely!

Sincerely,

Diane Cunningham, President, Citizens for Change on 71 (CC71)
