Vision: A safer Highway 71 from Oak Hill to the western Travis County line.
Mission: To work proactively with surrounding communities, TxDOT, CAMPO and elected officials to establish a safer driving experience on Highway 71.
Goal #1: Heighten public
awareness.
Objective 1A:
Establish a website by mid-August, 2007 to use as a platform for
our mission.
Objective 1B:
Create partnerships with other organizations so that we may link
our website to their websites by mid- August, 2007.
Objective 1C:
Establish an online petition to garner support for cause by mid-August,
2007.
Objective 1D:
Call a public meeting to gain support for a safer 71 by mid-August,
2007.
Objective 1E:
Contact media and newspapers to advertise our website and cause
by mid-September, 2007.
Objective 1F:
Contact various HOAs and cities in the area and ask them to print
articles regarding this cause by mid-October, 2007.
Goal #2: Demand immediate
action to alleviate specific dangers as soon as possible.
Objective 2A:
Provide public awareness regarding safety issues and improvements.
Objective 2B:
Gather and study the statistics regarding Highway 71 by mid- August,
2007 so that we can prove the immediacy of action needed in this
situation.
Objective 2C:
Advocate for safety improvements on Highway 71 in western Travis County:
1. Implement more warning signage on large curves, preferably signage
that flashes, and shows the speed at which vehicles are traveling
by September, 2007.
2. Fix areas more prone to hydroplaning, especially the spots where
an alarming number of accidents and fatalities have occurred recently
by September, 2007
3. Establish reduced speed limits on more dangerous stretches of
the highway by September, 2007
4. Establish many more stretches of the highway to include a continuous
turning lane.
5. Widen existing stretches that contain a turning lane to include
two lanes on each side of the turning lane by the end of 2007.
6. Advocate for funding for road improvements
7. Monitor TxDOT's action plan for SH 71 west
Objective 2D:
Ask the Travis County Sheriffs’ Office for more patrolling hours on Highway 71.
Objective 2E:
Ask the Department of Public Safety for more patrolling hours on Highway 71.

1. Complete 501c4 application process
2. Establish P.O. Box for correspondence
